Reiki offers a gentle yet powerful way to support healing in both people and animals. This energy-based practice helps balance the body’s natural flow, encouraging relaxation and recovery. Reiki is a way of life! Whether you are curious about trying Reiki for yourself top start your own healing journey or your beloved pet or horse, understanding how it works and its benefits can open new doors to wellness.

How Reiki Works and Its Core Principles
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that channels universal life energy through the practitioner’s hands to the recipient. The word "Reiki" combines two Japanese words: rei meaning universal and ki meaning life energy. This energy flows through all living things and supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
The practice is based on several key principles:
Energy Flow: Reiki helps clear blockages and balance the energy pathways in the body, promoting physical and emotional well-being.
Non-invasive Touch: Practitioners place their hands lightly on or just above the body, allowing energy to flow without manipulation or pressure.
Holistic Healing: Reiki addresses the whole person, including mind, body, and spirit, encouraging harmony and balance.
Intention and Compassion: The practitioner’s focused intention and compassionate presence are essential to directing healing energy.
Reiki does not replace medical treatment but can complement it by reducing stress, easing pain, and supporting recovery.
My Personal Story
I stumbled upon reiki by chance (or perhaps it was meant to be).
A wonderful woman was treating a horse at my yard in Derbyshire. The owner of the horse invited me to watch and share my thoughts. This woman was Julie Houghton, an incredible person. She asked me to place my hands on the horse and describe what I felt. I mentioned a tingling sensation in my fingers, and she told me to let her know when it stopped, which I did. She then felt the horse and told me that I had a natural ability for this, and she offered to teach me. That's where my journey began. I worked alongside her for two years in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. I treated horses for 10 years before moving on to humans. Initially, I struggled with the concept of energy, but horses were perfect subjects since they couldn't fake being lame or in pain. I achieved great results and still love working with horses.
I eventually decided to try Reiki for myself. From the first session, I knew it was something I needed to pursue. Reiki has truly transformed my life and the lives of many of my clients.
I incorporate Reiki into my daily routine, whether it's to relax, recharge when I'm tired, or help clients with whatever they need. It's an incredible method for easing tense, tight muscles.
If you are new to Reiki, here are some practical steps to begin your journey:
Attend a Reiki Session: Experiencing Reiki firsthand is the best way to understand its effects. Sessions usually last 30 to 60 minutes in a calm, comfortable setting.
Be Patient and Open: Healing can take time and may feel subtle. Trust the process and notice small changes in your well-being.
The Positive Impact of Reiki on Humans
Reiki has been shown to offer several benefits for people, including:
Stress Reduction: By calming the nervous system, Reiki helps lower stress hormones and promotes relaxation.
Pain Relief: Many recipients report less pain and discomfort after sessions, especially with chronic conditions.
Improved Sleep: Reiki can enhance sleep quality by easing tension and quieting the mind.
Emotional Balance: It supports emotional healing by releasing negative energy and fostering a sense of peace.
Enhanced Recovery: Reiki may speed up healing after surgery or injury by improving circulation and immune function.
While scientific research on Reiki is still growing, many hospitals and wellness centers incorporate it as a complementary therapy.
Reiki’s Role in Animal Healing
Animals respond well to Reiki because they are naturally attuned to energy. Reiki can help pets in various ways:
Reducing Anxiety and Fear: Reiki calms nervous animals, making vet visits and travel less stressful.
Supporting Recovery: It aids healing from injuries, surgeries, and chronic illnesses.
Behavioral Improvements: Reiki can ease aggression or hyperactivity by balancing emotional energy.
Strengthening the Human-Animal Bond: Sharing Reiki sessions deepens trust and connection between pets and their owners.
Animal Reiki practitioners often work with dogs, cats, horses, and even wildlife. The gentle touch and quiet presence of Reiki create a safe space for animals to relax and heal.
Reiki offers a unique path to wellness that respects the natural flow of energy in all living beings. Whether for self-care or supporting your animal companions, Reiki encourages balance, calm, and healing. Starting with a session or learning the basics can open new possibilities for health and harmony in your life.
